Sedona Tire and Wheels Competition Mud Pit

Sedona Tire & Wheel ‘Competition Mud Pit' will Challenge Riders

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (August 17, 2015) – There will be plenty of spirited action in the competition mud pit presented by Sedona Tire & Wheel for fans to enjoy during the Trig’s Smokehouse UTV/ATV World Championship Derby at Eagle River, Wis.

The family-friendly activities featuring oval and short course racing, mud pits and lots more will take place Friday through Sunday, Aug. 28-30 at the AMSOIL World Championship Derby Track.

“This weekend is all about family and friends getting together, having fun and cheering on their favorite riders,” said Chuck Decker, President and owner of the Derby Track. “Come out and be a part of one the best UTV/ATV events in the Upper Midwest!”

The UTV/ATV racing action begins Friday, August 28 with practice rounds and qualifying rounds in various classes. Racers will compete throughout the three days to be in the lead when the checkers drop at the Sedona Tire and Wheel start/finish line for the oval and closed short course races.

Friday night’s “Firecracker” starts at 8 p.m. and features the exciting “Extreme Freestyle Shows” in the Derby Bowl.

Competition Mud Pit

Competition continues Saturday in short course and oval racing. Then beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday over at the Sedona Tire & Wheel competition mud pit, the mud will be flying sky high as racers try to barrel their way through knee-deep mud on a narrow 14-foot wide path to the finish line 150 feet away.

The officials will determine the winners of the UTV and ATV divisions by the furthest distance traveled, or if they made it all the way, by the fastest time recorded.

Track workers using a tether will pull out those stuck in the mud; riders just have to make sure there’s a place to hook the tether onto their machines.

Riders who want to make a splash but without the competitive edge, can take their machines to the field mud pit located north of the campgrounds.

With all that mud flying, and maybe some hours on local UTV/ATV trails, riders will want to come clean – with showers that is. The Pines Community Wellness Center is sponsoring showers over at the nearby Northland Pines High School, 1800 Pleasure Island Road. Showers will be available for $5 per person from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Towels are not provided so remember to bring your own.

Racing resumes Sunday with all class finals beginning at 9 a.m. and the ATV World Championship race at 2 p.m. and the UTV World Championship race at 3 p.m.

Riders can make the most of the weekend by reserving a camping, RV or motor home site (25 by 45 feet) right on the Derby grounds. They will be able to ride from their campsite to the UTV/ATV trail system that recently opened in Vilas County. There’s also UTV/ATV access to downtown Eagle River.

In addition to the sanctioned races and “X Games”-type show, there will be displays and demo rides by leading manufacturers and after-market companies, high stakes poker run, live music, swap meet and large bonfire.
